The meeting had the highest attendance I can recall in recent times including representatives of General Practice, Junior Doctors, medical students, North Thames Regional Consultants (me) South Thanes Regional Consultants ( Kevin O’Kane)., Public Health  and elected representative of  the London Regional Assembly. The  London Regional Co-ordinator Dr Andrew Barton was present with Emma Bennet as BMA administrative support.

The London Mayoral  Candidates have been invited  to a hustings at BMA House.  So far the Liberal Green and Labour Candidates have shown an interest. A report was given from the Chair of the Junior Doctors Committee. There is a campaign at a regional and national level to target key political decision makers  and a number of events are being organised around the country in various constituencies. In April in Farnham there will be a Junior Doctors Rally. In South Thames there will be a memorial to the NHS and a Vigil culminating in a Walk to Downing Street. East London Doctors are also holding a rally ending in a Vigil outside St Paul’s Cathedral. It was noted that a letter has been sent out by Health Education England implying that if Trusts do not introduce the new JDr contract that Junior Dr posts would be lost. There was a general discussion took place on the effect of the upcoming Junior Doctors Industrial Action. It was noted by the Chair of JDC that some final year medical exams have been affected.
